Over the years numerous examples of art and
design have reached the public through the
covers of books. David Pelham's cover for
A Clockwork Orange became a cult classic due
to it's primary colours and contrasts. It
became revolutionary at the time. American
designer Paul Rand was inspired by the works
of European modernists to produce ground
breaking covers that looked like nothing
else on the shelf. He designed covers for
novels such as Prejudices: A Selection, and
The Anatomy of Revolution. Quentin Blake's
illustrations and covers for Road Dahl
captures the imagination reflected in
Road Dahl's stories. Romek Marber
revolutionised Penguin's design in 1961
with his extraordinary cover grid.
