The singer is currently promoting her freshly released album
"1989", and in a bid to drive up sales of the album, all her songs
have been removed from online music website Spotify. Her label,
Big Machine Label Group, is currently on sale. The hasty
removal of songs could be an attempt to drive up the sales price
of the label. It's not unusual for artists to withhold new material
from streaming services- Beyoncé, The Black Keys and Coldplay
have all withheld their latests albums in a bid to encourage
sales. What is unusual here is Swift's decision to remove
all her back catalog from the service. Her older albums only
remain on rival website Beats Music, owned by Apple.
Spotify has experienced a lot of criticism from artists who
claim the company does not pay enough royalties to it's artists.
1989 is set to draw in the biggest record sales in the first
week since Eminem's "The Eminem Show" sold 1.322 million copies in
its first week of sale.
