The lingerie brand has crafted a new billboard featuring
ten super-skinny models; some even photoshopped to look
thinner and give them Barbie-like proportions. The
slogan of the campaign "The Perfect Body", which is an
slogan questioned by campaigners against this advertisement;
if these super-thin bodies exposed in the campaign are supposed
to be "perfect", where does that leave anyone above
a size 2? (or a UK size 6). The average woman is a US size 10-UK size 14. Three British students have demanded
the company, along with an apology, remove the wording
of the advertisement. Victoria's Secret has long been
accused of playing on the insecurities of women,
projecting an ideal of female beauty that is virtually
unattainable. The message from the company can be
indeed damaging, and promote body insecurities to
young girls (the market VS are aimed at). The question that
remains is how far should companies go playing on
young girls insecurities with their marketing techniques?
