Alexandra Shipp is playing Aaliyah in her rise and
sudden death in a plane crash when she was just
22 years old. Wendy Williams, executive producer, has
defended the decision to make the biopic despite
Aaliyah's family stating publicly that they are
against the making of the film. The family have made
every effort to block any of the deceased star's
music from appearing in the film. Williams' opinion
defending the movie is that it is "tastefully"
done and is "not throwing anyone under the bus".
The biopic will be released on the 15th of
November 2015. The film is based on the biography
Aaliyah: More Than A Woman written by Christopher
Farley. Aaliyah was an American singer, dancer, actress
and model who was first signed to a record label at
age 12. She is credited for redefining R&B and hip
hop in the 1990s and attracting new demographics to
R&B.
