Are journalists narcissists?

Are journalists narcissists?
Smug, ruthless and egocentric - narcissists do not have
a good reputation. On the flipside, our society encourages and
promotes narcissistic characteristics. Think capitalism
or the "selfie" society.

What do Mick Jagger, Karl Lagerfeld, Silvio Berlusconi
and Johnny Ramone have in common? They are all narcissists.
At least that is what the journalists think.
Coincidentally, these celebrities coined "narcissists" all
attest one type of person: journalists. For their arrogance,
fakeness and lack of empathy.

So the real question here is, are journalists narcissists?

Psychologist Bärbel Wardetzki has dealt extensively with

the issue of narcissism. Narcissism has become a buzzword,
it is possible that the real narcissists are the people
using it- the journalists.

In her experience, there are many narcissists in journalism as well
as in politics or show business. The narcissists either
"idealizes others or puts them down" says Wardetzki.

There also happens to be a growing number of demand for
first-person essays, with highbrow publications, womans
blogs and magazines overflowing with personal stories from
journalists.

We all have narcissistic characteristics. Narcissism has two sides:
positive narcissism is a loud healthy self-esteem.
A narcissist has too little self-esteem, which is why he hides behind a
self-designed image or persona. The narcissist is deeply hurt
by those who woe to critizise him.
