Gerard Way at Reading Festival, August 2014 |
September the 30th.
Gerard Way is a former member and frontman of the band
who came to fame in 2003. My Chemical Romance brought alternative
rock right to the top of the charts in 2006 with their
album "The Black Parade".
He stated in Rolling Stone to have got inspiration from
Britpop, the sound and look of that time and even the artwork
from the film Trainspotting. Britpop was very inspirational to Way when he attended art school before My Chemical Romance.
Way told NME, before MCR disbanded, he relapsed into alcoholism, which took him to a dark place again, having already battled with the illness in MCR days. He pulled through with the thought of his daughter growing up without a father.
He performed his new album at Reading and Leeds Festival, the tracks proved to be pounding rock songs, edgy and with catchy melodies. He even thanked the crowds for getting up early to attend his early slot despite none of his songs having been released yet.
