The great Egyptian Pharaoh Tutankhamun, also refered to
as "King Tut", ruled Egypt from the age of 10 to 19. He
was one of the least esteemed of Egypt's Pharaohs, but
transcended into modern times, when his tomb was dicovered
in 1922 to the amazement of archaologists. The tomb had been forgotten and remained in good
condition when it was discovered, with many beautiful
objects King Tutankhamun was burried with intact. The tomb,
known as KV62, lies in the Valley of Kings (constructed
as a place of burrial for Pharaohs and nobles). It
contained more than 5,000 catalogued objects including
chariots, a gold couch, statues, jewelry and ornaments.
It was the most complete ancient Egyptian royal tomb
ever discovered.
New technology has scanned his mummy and discovered how
King Tut really looked; an overbite, buck teeth, girlish
hips and foot club. His mother was one of his fathers
five sisters, which could have explained the negative
health implications on King Tut and his ancestors.
However, the ancient Egyptians believed that incest
would keep the blood line pure. He had 130 walking
sticks that enabled him to walk with his disability.
He himself married his half-sister, and had two
stillborn daughters.
A new BBC 1 film, "Tutankhamun: The Truth Uncovered" will document the real life of
Tutankhamun and will be broadcast on Sunday the 26th of
October.
