Scarlett Johansson as superwoman Lucy, 2014 |
is about a young woman who discovers how to use her
complete brain power.
The story behind Lucy is based on the myth that humans
use only up to 10 per cent of their potential brainpower.
It is speculated that after billions of years of evolution, all animals with the exception of dolphins use just 3 to 5 per cent of their 'brain capacity'.
The 2011 film Limitless starring Bradley Cooper is also based on this theory.
Scarlett Johansson (Lost in Translation, the Avengers) plays the title character. Lucy is a student in Taipei, when she is kidnapped by a gang to use her for a narcotics-smuggling operation.
The bag of drugs accidentally explodes in her stomach and enters her blood stream.
From this accident she is able to access more of her cerebral capacity, her strenght and intelligence skyrocket. Throughout the film she acquires new skills such as telepathy and telekinesis.
