film director, film producer and entrepreneur. He is the late brother of
Sir David Attenborough
and John Attenborough.
Attenborough's career started in theatre, at the Leicester's Little Theater. He then moved
on to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, RADA, he was President of the Association till his death.
His film career begang in 1942, by 1949 he was one of the most popular
British actors in the box office. For the next decade he would participate
prolifically in British films, until landing a critical role as Roger Bartlett in The Great Escape, 1963.
This was his first appearance in a Hollywood blockbuster.
He played the character Lew Moran opposite James Stewart in The Flight of the Phoenix.

He made no appearances in the silver screen from 1979 to 1993.
In 1993 he appeared in Steven Spielberg's classic Jurassic Park, and the film sequel
The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997). He played the roll of John Hammond, the eccentric scientist
who fell in love with his own creation: Jurassic Park. In 1994 he brought to life again Kris Kringle
in the remake of Miracle on 34th Street.
He founded his own production company in the 1950s, Beaver Films, alongside Bryan Forbes,

In 1969 he made his first directorial debut in Oh! What a Lovely War! (1969). He went
on to direct two epic period films,
Young Winston (1972) and A Bridge Too
Far (1972).
He was awarded the Academy Award for
Best Picture and two Golden Gloces in
1982, for his historical epic Ghandi.
This man of many talents will truly be missed in Hollywood and the
British film industry alike.
